DC4Cities Energy adaptive data centres policies will affect the energy consumption through the interaction with lower level subsystems which will need to become renewable energy adaptive as well, specifically
DC4Cities data centres being adapted use the upper interface to retrieve information on renewable energy availability from the respective providers and receive energy constraint directives from the Smart City authorities and the Smart Grid. Then, based on the energy availability or constraints, the eco-friendly data centre policies communicate with the lower energy adaptive sub-systems to enact the energy plans.
DC4Cities architecture can be applied to any data centre type and, since it’s focused on data centre software and operations, no logistics modification in the data centre are required. Effects of additional optimizations in data centre logistics can be amplified by DC4Cities, because its approach affects the root cause of energy consumption, while logistics impacts the last step in the energy chain.
