Partners of the DC4Cities European project have met on 18 and 19 February at Gas Natural headquarters, in Barcelona, to analyze among all participants the results of first trials results from phase 1. The meeting has also served to deal with indicators and metrics, as well as to start working on the feasible project exploitation.
Barcelona hosted the fourth meeting in joining different Work Packages (WP) to review the state of the project and to present accomplished tasks and future goals.
Having gone by 60 per cent of the project, we are now on the 18 month out of 30, DC4Cities has finalized the execution of phase 1 trials, coordinated by the Catalan Consortium CSUC and carried out in Barcelona, Trento and Milano in parallel.
Day’s work ended up with a guided visit, organized by the Municipal Institute of Computing (IMI) of the Barcelona City Council, at the Ateneu de Fabricació de Les Corts, a public-private collaboration space which bets on social innovation supported by a digital fabrication lab. There, DC4Cities partners could go through a more festive environment, in a workshop equipped with an array of fabrication machines and software, such as 3D printers or filling machines, in order to transform ideas and concepts into physical and useful products for the society.
DC4Cities, started in September 2013 and considered “visionary” and “disruptive” by the European Commission, aims at promoting the role of DC as key players in energy policies. Such an initiative expects data centers to optimize its energy use, to diminish its energy consumption and to reduce its emissions. Consequently, cities will also reduce its consumption impact. Thus, with projects such as DC4Cities, data centers are integrated in Smart Cities.
